Parimarjan Negi wins the Malaysian Open

India’s youngest Grandmaster 16-year-old Parimarjan Negi clinched his second Open title in a month, winning the 6th IGB Dato Arthur Tan Malaysia Open at Kuala Lumpur, here today. Earlier this month, Negi won the Politiken Cup at Copenhagen.

In the all important final round, Negi scored a crucial victory over leader Emmanuel Senador of the Philippines moving up the leader board with 7.0 points on nine rounds. Joining Negi on top was IM Dableo Ronald of the Philippines. A better tie break gave Negi the title, his first in this part of Asia. Five wins and four draws sum up Negi’s grand show, where he stands to gain ten Elos.

The other Indian in fray, recently crowned Asian Zonal Champion Sriram Jha, seeded 16th, finished with five points tying between 27-44 places. Sailing on a reasonable 5/7 Jha lost his final two games, to GM Saidali Iuldashev of Uzbekistan and FM Carlos Leonardo of the Philippines, finishing with 5.0 points.
