Lalith Babu stuns GM Zubarev, Arun Karthik holds Iuldachev @ Chennai Open 2010

International Master Lalith Babu (2457) turned out an impressive show defeating Ukraine GM Alexander Zubarev (2544) in the sixth round of the Chennai Open 2010 International Grandmaster Chess tournament at Multipurpose Indoor Stadium, Chennai. The win takes Lalith to joint second spot at 5.5 points, the place he shares with GMs Deepan Chakkravarthy and Dmitry Kryakvin.

Second seeded Russian GM Maxim Turov (2584) moved into sole lead defeating giant killer R Siddarth in the top board game today. Surprise draws of the day include games between Ghaem Maghami-Varugeese Koshy and Sowmya Ranjan Mishra-Pavel Kotsur respectively.

Triple International Master Norm holder R Arun Karthik held Uzbek Grandmaster Saidali Iuldachev to a solid draw in a four knights game that lasted 77 moves. Arun Karthik had held top seed GM Ghaem Maghami to a draw in the fourth round and meets another Grandmaster – Arun Prasad – in the next round.
