Ivana, Lalith Babu & Yashas strike GOLD @ Commonwealth Championship 2009, Singapore
Indian chessmen showed that they are a powerhouse in this cerebral game, winning six medals in the Commonwealth Chess Championship 2009 at Singapore. Indian Gold medal winners were International Master M R Lalith Babu in the Under 20 Open section, D Yashas in the Under 16 Open section and Ivana Maria Furtado in Under 12 Open section.
Silver medal went to Chennai based S Harini in the Under 20 Open section and Mumbai based Aditya Udeshi in the Under 16 Open section. The lone Bronze medal went to J Mohanapriya.
Asian Junior Champion Ashwin Jayaram took the second spot in the Open section, followed by Pune based International Master Chandrasekhar Gokhale who took the fifth spot, while former National Champion and International Master Ponnuswamy Konguvel finished ninth.
