Air India shocks PSPB, moves into sole lead

Led by second youngest Grandmaster in the history of chess, Parimarjan Negi, second seeds Air India toppled favorites and top seeds Petroleum Sports Promotion Board in the fifth round of the National Club Team Chess Championship 2010 at DAV Public School,  Gurgaon. Air India’s Parimarjan Negi held higher rated Krishnan Sasikiran to a draw in the top board. The marathon Ruy Lopez game lasted 80 moves.

In other games, Tejas Bakre and G B Joshi defeated GMs Arun Prasad and Deepan Chakkravarthy, while IM Satyapragyan held GM Abhijit Kunte to a draw, completing the winning score of 3-1. With 10 match points, Air India leads the table, followed by PSPB, Railways “A” and Railways “B” at 8.0 points.

In the women’s section, Dibyendu Barua Chess Academy swept past Bihar 4-0, with all the titled players scoring facile victories over their lesser rated opponents. Life Insurance Corporation of India led by Woman FIDE Master Bindu K Saritha defeated hosts Haryana 2.5-1.5 and has a bye in the next round.
