Commonwealth Championships 2010 @ New Delhi announced

The Indian chess summer is offering great possibilities for aspiring chess, starting with the Commonwealth Chess Championship scheduled to be held at Clarksinn Pacific Mall, Near Anand Vihar Metro Station, Delhi. Clarks Inn are the official hosts of the Championship. The tournament runs from 9th to 19th May, 2010 and offers  GM and IM Norm opportunities.

The eleven round event, throws in a cash prize of Rs.8,00,000 (appx US $ 17400) with the winner getting a pay check of Rs.1,60,000. In addition, Gold, Silver and Bronze medals will be awarded in Open, Seniors, Women, Under-20 (Boys and Girls), Under-18 (Boys and Girls), Under-16 (Boys and Girls), Under-14 (Boys and Girls), Under-12 (Boys and Girls) , Under-10 (Boys and Girls), Under-8 (Boys and Girls) categories. The medal winners will be referred to as Commonwealth Medallists.

With Grandmaster Open tournaments coming up in Bhubaneshwar, Orissa from 21st to 31st May, 2010 and at Mumbai from 2nd to 10th June, 2010. Three mega Grandmaster chess tournament in a row, is unprecedented in Indian chess history. Last year this event was held at Singapore, while the year before that  in 2008 Nagpur in central India hosted this prestigious championship.
